Helical Pile Installation Procedure
DESIGN, INSTALLATION AND TESTING OF HELICAL PILES & ANCHORS
What is a Helical Anchor/Pile? • A helical anchor/pile consists of one or more helix-shaped bearing plates attached to a central shaft, which is installed by rotating or "torqueing" into the ground. Each helix is attached near the tip, is generally circular in plan, and formed into a helix with a defined pitch. Helical anchors/piles derive ... More Information
HELICAL PILE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Install the Grip-Tite pier cap with the nuts and threaded rods provided by the manufacturer. Place the pier cap on top of the last extension. Attach the rods and leave 1 ½ to 2 inches of the rod threads exposed above the nut on top of the pier cap to accommodate the coupler for the Grip-Tite lift cylinder. Once the correct amount of rod thread above the nut is exposed, run the bottom nut up hand-tight against the bottom of the bracket. Tighten all nuts evenly so that the pier cap remains level. Helical Pile Installation Methodology
Before installation, a helical anchor/pile is simply a screw with a discontinuous thread and a uniform pitch. When installed into soil, a helical anchor/pile functions as an axially loaded end-bearing deep foundation. The helix plates serve a two-fold purpose. The first purpose is to provide the means to install the helical anchor/pile. More Information
